Rockland Residents Walk for Autism Awareness

The Greater Hudson Valley Walk Now For Autism Speaks was held Saturday, Oct 15 at Rockland County Community College. UPDATED with more information, including the amount of money raised.

Rockland County residents were among those gathered for the Greater Hudson Valley Walk Now For Autism Speaks was held Saturday, Oct 15 at Rockland County Community College.

The event drew more than 600 people and has raised $96,000 so far. They money will go to Autism Speaks for its local and national efforts to increase awareness, support autism research and family services and to speak up for the needs of people with autism.

There are more than 80 Autism Speaks events nationwide. They raised nearly $26 million in 2010.

“Thanks to our remarkable families, volunteers, sponsors and staff, this year’s Walk was an unprecedented success and a joyous day for our community,” said Cathy Zendell, Walk Chair.  “Working together, we are making incredible strides as we try to find the answers we all seek about this disorder and improve the lives of people with autism and their families.”
