Orangetown Data Center Project Moving Forward

The Orangetown Council is expected to vote a measure that will help Russo Development move forward with the data center project at 155 Corporate Drive in Orangeburg at the town board meeting 7:30 p.m. tonight in town hall. 

The board is expected to approve a permanent easement on the site, allowing for three utility lines necessary for the site. The full agenda for tonight's meeting is attached to this report. 

"We are glad to see it here an thrilled to move forward with your business development," Orangetown Supervisor Andy Stewart said.

"To me, this is a really exciting development," Councilman Denis Troy said. "Whatever we can do that is fair to the town, I definitely support this. It's a great ratable coming in."

The easement allows for telecommunication lines along the road entering the facility and one that would go over the edge of nearby town property near Veteran's Park. This called for technical reviews and an evaluation of compensation to the town for allowing the use of land. 

"The town should never give away land rights," Stewart said. "It looks like we are all on the same page and they can continue with the development of the project.

"The bottom line is the town worked very hard to get this company situationed and address the technical questions that have come up. We're very happy with the progress we are making on it."

Among other items on tonight's agenda:

• A resolution supporting the family of Paula Bohovesky of Pearl River in their efforts to keep the men convicted of her murder in jail. Bohovesky was killed in 1980 in Pearl River. The Rockland County Legislature approved a similar measure last week. 
• New contracts with Tappan Free Library, Palisades Free Library, Orangeburg Free Library and Blauvelt Free Library, which are now able to enter into individual agreements with the town rather than being tied together by state law.
• A letter extending the agreement between Orangetown and the Noble Ninth for the use of the Masonic Park in Tappan by Orangetown's Summer Day Camp program.
