Pearl River Driver Charged With DWI After Hitting Parked Car On Main Street

Both cars have extensive damage; no one injured.

A Pearl River man is charged with drunken driving after crashing into a parked car on Main Street in Nyack, according to Orangetown police.

Joseph A. Brancatelli Jr., 46, of 8 Evergreen Lane, was arrested after the 6:55 p.m. incident in front of 230 Main St. Both the 2009 Honda CRV driven by Brancatelli and the parked car were extensively damaged in the crash, police said.

No one was injured.

Police said Brancatelli failed a field sobriety test and told town officiers he had been drinking vodka before the accident. Brancatelli was taken to Orangetown police headquarters in Orangeburg, where he failed a chemical breath test for alcohol, police said.

Brancatelli was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and later released to a family member pending a Feb. 2 hearing in Nyack Village Court.

Wow, I can turn to Nyack-Piermont patch daily and there is something about a drunk driver article almost every day. Something is terribly wrong with us, yes us as in society, if there is that much drunk driving going on. I sit and think about all of the innocent victims who are at no fault other than being in the way, and now their lives and their family's are forever changed. All because someone decides to drive instead of calling a friend or a cab. Countless victims in hospitals, in graves, all because of a driver who cannot function without a few more drinks. Sad and avoidable. It is time now for the punishment to actually and finally fit the crime. If you drive and are above legal limits....NO plea bargains, NO deals. Just hardline dealing with the driver who causes so much heartache, so much pain. It has to stop...it cannot go on, that system is broke, time for one that actually works. I have two daughters growing up in Nyack and I think about how this will affect both of them . What choices they will make, who they will make friends with...what happens if they are out and a driver who drinks offers a ride ? Too much for a parent to bear...hospital trips with someone on life support...your precious and beautiful child comatose...unrecognizable...for what ? So someone can drink just one more...one more.
