Police: Driver Angry Over Traffic Stopped For Funeral Procession Charged With DWI

New City man got attention by yelling at other motorists as police officer directed traffic.

A New City man who became impatient and honked his horn as traffic was stopped for a funeral procession in Congers was arrested Thursday on drunken driving charges, according to Clarkstown police.

Edward Tabaracci, 50, was also cited for drinking alcohol in a vehicle during the 12:15 p.m. incident at Lake Road and Old Haverstraw Road.

Police said a town officer was assigned to traffic control at the intersection so a funeral procession could pass. While traffic was stopped for the procession, police said Tabaracci became very impatient, activated his horn and leaned out the driver's window of his car to yell at the driver of the car in front of him.

After the possession passed, the town officer stopped the irate driver and observed that he seemed to be intoxicated. Tabaracci failed a field sobriety and was taken to police headquarters in New City, where police said he failed a chemical test for alcohol.

Tabaracci was arrested and later released pending a Feb. 22 hearing in Clarkstown Town Court in New City on charges of driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and drinking alcohol in a vehicle,  a violation.

Perhaps he should practice being patient by riding in a hearse...slowly...in the back...in a coffin.

A sad commentary about the state of humankind.

Well hopefully he'll sit in jail and ponder the thought of maybe he could've killed someone since he was drinking & driving. I'm not sure what is happening in the world but it seems scary to drive down the street these days with all the numerous arrests for DWI and DUI's. Makes you wonder who's in front or behind you when you drive.

Just as I was about to say to my wife, "honey, no drunk driving arrests in over 24 hours ! "....I saw this article involving an irate driver getting arrested for driving drunk. Ironic if the deceased was a victim of drunk driving. I hope Mr Tabaracci sees the insanity in his choice not only to drink and drive ( at around noon mind you ) but of what he could have caused if he crashed. Obviously he should thank the procession because it just might have saved his life if not others.
