Sandy - Update from Orangetown Town Hall

Update from Orangetown Supervisor Andy Stewart on storm-related activity in Orangetown.

I have posted an updated Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on the Town website, accessible from the home page, or just click here. The FAQs address Town services and other human needs during the recovery from Sandy.

I also posted a list of roads closed as of 10-31-12.

In brief, the Town is working hard to clear roads and the pace depends almost entirely on O&R clearing wires tangled in trees, and O&R has its own protocols for prioritizing and implementing this work.

Town Hall is open as a comfort station, and we have created a public wireless point of access, open 7 AM - 9 PM, depending on availability, with priority to those with urgent medical needs, and availability of outlets for re-charging electronic devices.

Building Dept and Parks Dept are operating out of Town Hall.

The Town recommends against Trick-or-Treating until trees and downed wires are cleaned up.

Please treat all intersections as 4-way stops since there are few working traffic signals - stay off the roads if possible.

More detailed information is available via the link above to the Town website.

I am so impressed with Orangetown staff and EMS volunteers who have worked through the night to protect public safety and initiate recovery efforts. Please check the FAQs I posted and email relevant information and further questions...

I fully support these folks in their effort to find a cure to cancer. This guy Murphy seems like heRead More has a head for numbers. Any chance one of these days he will offer up what he has done or will do as a county legislator to fix the financial mess our county is in? Bon Appétit!
