Update from Town Hall: Beat the Heat at Kaufman Campground

Two announcements from Town Hall: 1) the beautiful pool and other facilities at Kaufman Campground are opening to the public, and 2) opportunities to learn about "green infrastructure"

With spring in full bloom and summer rapidly approaching, I'm delighted to be able to share some seasonal news with town residents.

Following extensive consultations with the Town Parks and Building Departments, Kaufman Campground, Orangetown's largest privately owned park, is opening its beautiful pool, petting zoo, and playing fields for weekend use by town residents for the first time. I am extremely grateful to the owners of the site, located off of Sickletown Road in Pearl River, for making their facilities available to the public. There is a limit of about 200 memberships -- first come first served -- and discounts are available for emergency services volunteers. For information on membership fees and registration, go to http://www.hkcfamilypark.com/. The pool will be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, June 21 - September 2.

Interested in how the town and local landowners are protecting the environment while saving money? Join local experts on a "green infrastructure" tour of innovative drainage projects that promote clean water, healthy habitats and decreased flooding. Includes porous parking lot at Lamont Doherty, raingarden at Orangetown Highway Dept and other sites that I describe in the tour booklet available for download from the Town website. Meet at Sparkill Firehouse, 520 Rte 340, Saturday, May 4, 10 AM - 1 PM, Rain or Shine! Space is limited, so RSVP to: Andy Stewart, Orangetown Supervisor, 845-359-5100 x2261, astewart@orangetown.com. Later this same week we'll have a tour of the Orangetown Sewer Treatment Plant, Thursday, May 9 at 7 PM. Same RSVP as above.
