A Jewish Singer and Baptist Choir Team Up for Vietnam Vets

Memorial Day concert encourages cross-faith unity

An unlikely group of musicians is teaming up this Memorial Day to honor fallen soldiers and promote cross-faith unity.

The Orangetown Jewish Center in Orangeburg is hosting a Monday evening concert titled Halleluyah in Harmony, an event that features Jewish singer/songwriter Neshama Carlebach  backed by the Green Pastures Baptist Church Choir. The two have been working together for half-a-decade, and will be performing non-religious and Jewish music.

"The message is that more unites us than divides us," explained Rabbi Paula Drill, who helped to organize the performance. "Together we're stronger and better. We're hoping to open our doors very wide to the entire Rockland community."

Much off the show's expenses were offset by anonymous donors, Drill noted. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. All proceeds will benefit two charities: Rockland County Vietnam Veterans and Jewish War Veterans.

"We'd love for this to be the first of many civic engagements that involve all faiths of Rockland County," Drill said.
