Coming Up: The Muddy Creek Fair

Spring has come and it brings the annual Muddy Creek Fair.

The fair, which is run by the Franklin Avenue Elementary School PTA, always has tons of games and even more prizes, and every child goes home a winner.

Funds raised during the fair go to the Franklin Ave. PTA for the school's cultural events and to help pay for the cultural programs and assemblies that the children enjoy during the school year.

"Planning for the Muddy Creek Fair is very involved," PTA member Eileen Maher said. "Games need to be updated and rented.  Refreshments need to be planned and purchased. Raffle prizes need to be obtained, tickets made up, prizes ordered and organized, volunteers obtained and organized, etc.  Putting together this carnival requires a great deal of manpower."

Every year, the hard work and dedication of the committee is obvious. Families from Pearl River have gone to the fair for generations. Alumni bring their children and share the  experiences they had with their parents.

"I'm looking forward to it," said Sarah Grady, who used to attend the fair with her family in the early 90's and is now bringing her four-year-old. "I only have great memories."

Tickets are $9 each or two for $16. This gives patrons access to 11 games and activities, open to everyone, but especially suited for the pre-Kindergarten-to-elementary-school age group. Children receive a consolation prize at every game, so even the kids who don't necessarily win leave feeling like a winner.

The fair also gives parents some time to mingle with other parents as their kids play, while supporting their school's cultural programs.

The Muddy Creek Fair will take place this Sat, March 5th, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Franklin Ave. Elementary School behind the Pearl River Public Library.
