Grab and Go Kids Planner: Fishing Contest, Amazing Grace Circus, Max & Ruby Bunny Party, and "The Cat in the Hat"

Mother's Day is fast approaching. Listed below are some activities and events that fathers and grandparents can take the kids as Mom enjoys some well-deserved downtime.


Where/When: Veteran's Memorial Park in Orangeburg; Sat., May 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Rain date is Sat., May 14.
Why Go?: This annual event, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Pearl River, is open to all children and their families. There will be prizes and trophies given for special catches and tagged fish, including a $1,000 savings bond for one "prize" catch.
Pricing: Free

Amazing Grace Circus at Nyack Library
Where/When: The Nyack Library, 59 South Broadway in Nyack; Sat., May 7 from 1 to 3 p.m.
Why Go?: There will be fun, food and festivities for everyone, including activities provided by the Amazing Grace Circus. At noon, the event kicks off with an opening ceremony and a ribbon cutting as members of the The Historical Society of the Nyacks celebrate the grand opening of its new headquarters in The Depew House on Piermont Avenue.
Pricing: Free. This event is generously supported by The Friends of the Nyacks.

Meet the Critters
Where/When: Petco at 164 Rockland Plaza in Nanuet on Sat., May 7 and Sun., May 8 from 1 - 2 p.m.
Why Go?: Get a chance to hold a hamster and find out what great pets they make. Open to the public.
Pricing: Free

Meet The Cat in the Hat
Where/When: Barnes & Noble at 140 Rockland Plaza in Nanuet; Sat., May 7
at 2 p.m.
Why Go?: Kids can meet The Cat in the Hat and discover the world of Dr. Seuss at this afternoon storytime.
Pricing: Free
Note: Barnes & Noble in Nanuet has a recurring Children's Storytime every Wednesday at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.  

LEGO Club
Where/When: Storytime Room at the Pearl River Library, Mon., May 9
from 4 - 5 p.m.
Age: Program is for children, ages 4 - 7 years old. 
Pricing: Free

Max & Ruby Bunny Party
Where/When:   Storytime Room at the Pearl River Library, Wed., May 11 from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m.
Age:  Event is geared to children ages 2 - 4 years old
Pricing: Free, but registration is required. Registration is open from May 2 - 6 at the Information Desk in the Children's library.

Wii for Big Kids
Where/When: Storytime Room at the Pearl River Library, Wed., May 11
from 7 – 8 p.m.
Age: For kids in 4th to 6th grade
Pricing: Free. No registration required.


Where/When: Pearl River United Methodist Church, 130 Franklin Ave.,
on Sat., May 14 from 5 - 7 p.m.
Why Go?: This annual event features an affordable and tasty meal comprised of 4 pieces of fish with chips or 4 pieces of chicken and chips with cole slaw, tartar sauce, dessert and a beverage. Take-out is available. All proceeds to benefit the United Methodist Church of Pearl River. Advance ticket purchase is highly recommended. Call 845.735.2241 for ticket information.  
Pricing: Adults: $12.50; children under 12: $5
