Have Fun With Cooking, Jewelry, Pottery, Art Classes

School may be out, but there are many classes in session for students willing to do some work while having a lot of fun. Check out what this week's "Grab and Go Kids Planner" has on the agenda.

The Great Summer Zoofari at the Bronx Zoo
When/Where: From now until September 30. Weekdays from
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The Bronx Zoo is located at 2300 Southern Boulevard in the Bronx.
Why Go: The LEGO Wildlife Expedition is where visitors can roam around freestanding wildlife structures made from thousands of LEGO pieces placed throughout the park. I’ve personally seen this exhibition and it’s very cool, especially for children who are fascinated with LEGOs. Children can pick up special passports, build their own safari structures and watch as master LEGO builders create masterful wildlife creations.
Pricing:
$16 for adults and children, ages 3 to 12, $12. Parking not
included.

Teen Gaming at the Pearl River Library
When/Where: Wednesday, July 20 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.;
Pearl River Library, 80 Franklin Avenue.
Why Go: Teens are invited to join their peers at the library
and play the latest Wii video games and board games.
Pricing: Free. No registration.

Battle of the Books Discussion
When/Where: Wednesday, July 20 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.;
Pearl River Library, 80 Franklin Avenue.
Why Go: Battle of the Books team members will gather to discuss the books from the battle list and prepare for the regional battle in September. A mock Battle of the Books will be held on August 10. Championship in the Regional Battle of the Books will be held on
Saturday, September 10.
Pricing: Free. No registration.

Ice Cream Social at The Blauvelt Library
When/Where: Thursday, July 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Blauvelt Free Library, 541 Western Highway in Blauvelt.
Why Go: Kids, ages 10 to 15, are invited to create an ice cream treat.

Craft Day at The Blauvelt Library
When/Where: Friday, July 22 at 3:00 p.m. at the Blauvelt Free Library, 541 Western Highway in Blauvelt.
Why Go: Kids, ages 5 to 12, will be shown how to create a craft from nature. Space is limited to 12, so registration is highly recommended. Pricing: For more information, call 845-359-2811.

Friday Night Crafts at Glaze
When/Where: Friday, July 22 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.;
Glaze Ceramics located in the Orangeburg Shopping Center, 34 Orangeburg Shopping Center.
Why Go: Children in grades 1st to 6th can exercise their fingers and imaginations as they are instructed on the basics of basket weaving.
Pricing: $25 per child. Limited enrollment, so please check availability. Call 845-359-9020.

Story Time and Painting
When/Where: Monday, July 25 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.;
Glaze Ceramics is located at 34 Orangeburg Shopping Center in the Orangeburg Shopping Center.
Why Go: Bring your preschooler (children ages 2-5) to listen to a story and paint a piece of pottery. This week’s story will be The Ice Cream King by Steve Metzger.
Pricing: $15 per child. Session includes the story and coordinating
piece of pottery.

Cooking Around the World
When/Where: Monday, July 25 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Pearl River Library, 80 Franklin Avenue.
Why Go: Chef Norma Chang will teach teens how to prepare and
cook three delicious Chinese dishes. The teens will then be able to taste, eat and enjoy their creations, which means less cooking for Mom and Dad.
Pricing: Free but registration is required. Inquire now because slots
fill up quickly.

Make Your Own Beaded Jewelry
When/Where: Tuesday, July 26 and Tuesday, August 2nd from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Pearl River Library, 80 Franklin Avenue.
Why Go: Teens in 6th to 12th grades will be instructed on how to make their own handmade beads out of clay that they can then paint and string together into a jewelry piece of their choice. In order for the teens to complete their project, it is recommended that participants attend both weeks.
Pricing: Free but registration at the library’s Information Desk prior
to Tuesday, July 26 is required because space is limited.
