How to Share Your Pictures/Videos on Patch

Make Patch into your local, neighborhood scrapbook—but with this one you won't even have to brush off the dust.

Have you ever gone back to old high school or grade school yearbooks—looked at pictures of yourself and your friends in cheerleading costumes, posing in front of the Capitol Building on the 8th grade trip to Washington, dancing at the prom...

Someone at Patch recently described the site as a virtual scrapbook. She called it an online hub of pictures, videos and stories that anyone from anywhere else might not even take a second glance at. But for Rivertowns residents, Patch is like an indelible yearbook (the pictures never yellow; pages won't collect dust) that has unlimited space for media.

But we can't put up all the pictures ourselves.

There are many options for you to add ("upload") photos and videos to our site.

1) Add photos to an existing article.

Find out what's happening in Pearl Riverwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

  • If we have already posted a photo gallery of an event (Pearl River Holiday Track Festival, for example), you can add your own photos by clicking the green icon that says "upload photos and videos" right below the pictures in the article. Once you click that, you'll only need to find the photos on your computer, select them and they will automatically be copied into the Patch gallery. Then all you need to do is add a caption. You will automatically be credited for your photography.

2) Add Photos to an event we previewed on Patch.

  • Often, we post previews of events to let you know they're happening, but we aren't able to send Patch photographers to the actual events. If you attend, you can create a gallery with your photos by creating an announcement and adding your photos. To create an announcement, scroll down to "Contribute" at the bottom of the page and select "announce to everyone." (You'll have to log in to Patch first.) Create a title for your event— e.g. "Pearl River Celebrates New Year's Eve"—write a quick description. (It can be no more than one sentence: "Pearl River residents rang in the new year....") Then add your photos. Choosing a category for your announcement can be tricky; my defaults are generally "The Neighborhood Files" or "local connections." Send me the link to your announcement/gallery (ryan.buncher@patch.com) and I'll feature it on the home page.

3) Add to our new neighborhood gallery.

  • Have you recently taken a picture of something beautiful, weird, amazing or just plain artistic here in the Pearl River? Add it to our general neighborhood gallery by clicking "gallery" at the top of the page. (It's right next to "local connections.") Of course, you can add your own caption and will receive the photo credit.

4) Add to the Daily Sports Digest.

  • This is another relatively recent addition to Pearl River Patch, one designed to allow you to share pictures and information about sporting events in the area as well as reading what we have. Just click on the latest Daily Sports Digest and add pictures like you would for any article. Be sure to email Pearl River Patch at ryan.buncher@patch.com to let us know your pictures are there and to pass along any information you would like to include.

Help make Patch as robust a scrapbook as possible. Add your photos.

(Editor's note: "Upload" simply means plugging your camera into your computer or sticking in your camera's memory card, finding the photos on your computer and selecting them to share.)

If you run into any trouble, call or email Ryan Buncher at (914) 216-4918 or ryan.buncher@patch.com
