Local Libraries Compete in Battle of the Books

Pearl River Public Library, New City Free Library and Nyack Library will send a teams to compete with squads from 11 other libraries in the RCLS Regional Battle of the Books Saturday at Haverstraw King's Daughters Public Library.

Teams from Pearl River Public Library, New City Free Library and Nyack Library will compete in the 4th Annual RCLS Regional Battle of the Books 1 p.m. Saturday at Haverstraw King's Daughters Public Library.

Teams are made up of five students in grades seven through 12. They compete by answering questions about specific books they have read. Last year's event included 45 competitors. This time around, 12 libraries within the Ramapo Catskill Library System will take part.

"It encourages young people to get involved with great literature, work together as a team and then gather with other teams in the spirit of friendly competition to test their knowledge," said Christina Linder, the young adult librarian at the Pearl River Public Library through a release about the event.
