Model Train Show Pulls in to Pearl River

The 2013 Pearl River Model Train Show begins Saturday at Pearl River United Methodist Church.

Members of the Bergen County Model Railroad Club began putting together the sets for the 2013 Pearl River Train Show weeks ago.

The show, now in its 23rd year, begins Saturday at Pearl River United Methodist Church on Franklin Ave. in Pearl River.

"Every year, we get a lot of familiar faces and a lot of new ones," said Jeffrey Potischman of the BCMRRC. "Everybody comes and they seem to love it. That's what keeps us going."

There will be five layouts with some new designs. Potischman invited Patch to stop by for a sneak peak early in the process of setting up. Check out the pictures and video attached to this report.

"We like to change it so when visitors come, it is not the same thing every year," Potischman said.

Pearl River is the BCMRRC's primary show, one that draws a crowd to the United Methodist Church for three weekends every year. The cost is $5 per adult and $2 per child.

The show schedule is as follows:

  • Saturday, Feb. 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, Feb. 17 from noon to 5 p.m.
  • Monday, Feb. 18 from noon to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, Feb. 23 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, Feb. 24 from noon to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, March 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, March 3 from noon to 5 p.m.

The time was extended to 6 p.m. Feb. 18 because what was initially a day off for most local schools was changed into a school day in Pearl River due to the time lost to Hurricane Sandy.
