Parent University and Youth Sports Among the Kid-Friendly Options

“You Don’t Know Me Until You Know Me!”
Where/When: 
Pearl River High School, Auditorium, Pirate Cove located at 275 E. Central Ave.; Thurs., Mar. 24; Program starts at 7 p.m. and lasts until 8:10 p.m.
Why Go: Dr. Michael “Mykee” Fowlin is a nationally renowned speaker, psychologist and poet, who is performing his powerful and captivating one-man show on acceptance with regards to ethnicity and personal identity. This program, made possible by a donation from the PRHS’ Parent Teacher Student Association, is part of the Pearl River School District’s Parent University.
Pricing: Free

Spring Fling Fundraiser at Kid’s Kingdom in Nanuet
Where/When:
Kid’s Kingdom, 121 West Nyack Rd., in Nanuet; Sat., Mar. 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1:30 p.m. Call 845.425.0009 for more information.
Why Go?: Child Care Resources of Rockland hosts its’ annual Spring Fling fundraiser. Bring the family and enjoy games, crafts, face-painting, raffles, snacks and entertainment.
Pricing: $12 for children, $5 for kids ages 2 and under. Admission includes all activities.

Funkey Monkeys Performance at Bergen PAC
Where/When:
 Bergen Performing Art Center (PAC), Family Cabaret Room, 30 North Van Brunt Street; Englewood, NJ; Sun., Mar. 27; Shows at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Why Go: The Funkey Monkeys are professional musicians, comedians and improvisational teachers, who perform their unique style of fun music and improvised sketches for kids under the age of nine and over the age of 30. For more info, call 201.227.1030.
Pricing: Tickets are $17 a piece. Buying tickets in advance is highly recommended since these shows often sell out.

Maple Sugar Tours
Where/When: Hudson Highlands Nature Museum Outdoor Discovery Center, entrance at 100 Muser Drive, across from 174 Angola Rd. in Cornwall. Tours are Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tours start every half hour and last about 45 minutes. Final tour dates are Mar. 26 and 27.
Why go? This is the last weekend, so come on and get tapping! Call 845.534.5506 for more information.
Pricing: $10 for adults and $5 for children, ages 3-11. Museum members: $6 for adults and $3 for children, ages 3-11.

Tween Lego Master Builders
Where/When: Pearl River Library, 80 Franklin Ave., Pearl River; Mon., Mar. 28 from 4 p.m.
Why Go: This free program, geared to tweens ages 8-12 years old, builds confidence one LEGO brick at a time.
Pricing: Free. No registration required. Bring a friend. 

Great Adventure Family Vacation Trip
Where/When: Great Adventure, Jackson, NJ; Wed., Apr. 20. The trip will leave Veteran’s Park at 8 a.m. and return at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis at the Orangetown Parks and Recreation Office, located at 81 Hunt Rd. in Orangeburg, Mon. thru Fri. during regular business hours.
Why Go: This trip is for Orangetown students in grades 8 through 12. Children under the age of eight may go if accompanied by an adult. Families are welcome. Permission slips for this trip are available by calling the Recreation Office at 845.359.5100, ext. 2233.
Pricing: $42 includes admission to the theme park only and bus transportation. Registration will take place at the Orangetown Recreation Office until Apr. 11.

Youth Sports Program at Pearl River Middle School
Where/When: Pearl River Middle School, 520 Gilbert Ave.; Program begins Mon., Apr. 4 and goes to Jun. 13. Session time: 6-7 p.m.
Why Go: This program provides an opportunity for parents to participate with their children, ages 4 and 5, in skill-building activities designed specifically to help kids develop basic skills, including catching, throwing, kicking and batting, needed for participation in many types of organized athletic programs.
