Pearl River Day Continues to Grow

Pearl River Day is organized by the Pearl River Chamber of Commerce and will draw over 100 vendors to Central Avenue from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Pearl River Day will draw over 100 vendors and more than 30 sponsors and thousands of people to parts of Central Avenue in Pearl River from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

"Every year it gets a little bit better," said Pearl River Day Chairperson Matt Reid, in his first year leading the planning for the Pearl River Chamber of Commerce event. "Every year we get more and more sponsorships, vendors and participants."

Pearl River Day drew approximately 6,000 people a year ago, but the organizers are projecting between 8,000 and 10,000 this time around. One potential drawback is holding it on a holiday weekend, but they are trying to counter that by doing more to get the word out.

"We also put more effort into that this year with Patch and Facebook and other ways to get people to know about it," Reid said. "We got the signage up earlier this year and we're hoping more people come."

Reid, a loan officer for a mortgage bank who does much of his business in Orangetown, joked that somebody else "volunteered him" for the job, but he has enjoyed it. Once again, there will be a contest for local performers, though Pearl River Idol has been replaced by Pearl River Has Talent. Reid said there will also be two stages instead of one.

"There will be a lot more entertainment," Reid said.

There is a list of entertainers, vendors and sponsors below, but there could still be last-minute additions. The event includes shopping, food, music, demonstrations, face painting, pumkin painting, balloon twisting and bouncy attractions among other forms of entertainment. Local preschools will have activities for children five and under.

Patch will also be part of Pearl River Day , with standing by to answer questions, take suggestions and just talk as well as covering the event.
