Pearl River Library Budget Passes; Manning Voted in as Trustee

Pearl River Public Library's proposed 2013-14 budget passed easily Tuesday and Marie Manning won election to the board of trustees as a write-in.

The budget received yes votes on 236 of the 286 ballots, which is 82.5 percent. Pearl River Library Director Kathy Rose said the vote reflects the feedback the library receives.

"We're very pleased," said Pearl River Public Library Director Kathy Rose, "We hear all year long that people support the library."

There were no candidates on the ballot for the open seat on the board of trustees, but Manning said she was interested at the public budget hearing at the library May 28. She received 39 votes as a write-in. Nobody else got more than three.

The Pearl River Public Library budget for 2013-14 does exceed the state mandated tax levy cap at 3.94 percent, but the actual increase for residents is projected to be 1.2 percent.
