Pearl River Library Sends Valentines Cards to Veterans

Children created Valentine's Day Cards to send to Veterans and soldiers overseas.

Ice storms cannot deter the enthusiasm of Annadora Pedro, Youth Services at the Pearl River Library. The annual Valentine's Day Cards for Veterans was delayed once by snow before taking place last week.

Although the weather caused the event to not have the turnout it usually, the people who did show up were cheerful and creative. Brother Dillon and Gavin Nittoli, who attend Good Shepherd and Lincoln Ave Elementary School, were busy making as many cards as they could imagine.

"We're making cards for veterans," explained Dillon.

"It's fun but I have to start over. I ripped my card," Gavin said after adding another card to his impressive pile.

Children's movies played in the background as library staff members and patrons came by the community room to send a special message to a veteran.

"We all love to make Valentines," said Pedro. "It's wonderful to send our thanks and love to the veterans who really appreciate our thoughts."

Events geared towards special interest groups such as children, teens, and seniors have become very popular. This event was one of many events for children the Pearl River Public Library hosts. To learn about upcoming events, check the library's bulletin or call (845) 735-4084.
