Pearl River Library Using Survey to Help Plan Future

Pearl River Public Library launched a survey of the community designed to help in future planning Oct. 5 as part of Pearl River Day.

That day, the library posted the survey online on its website. Printed surveys are being sent to all residences in Pearl River as well. Paper copies and Spanish language and large print versions are available at the library.

The survey can be completed anonymously and library personnel are seeking input from people of all ages whether they currently use library resources or not. Participants can enter themselves into a random drawing. Prizes will include a Nook e-reader, Pearl River Public Library tote bags and coupons to excuse fines for overdue materials. The survey period ends Nov. 15.

"As we are celebrating our 50th anniversary of the Pearl River Public Library at this Franklin Avenue location, it seems an appropriate time to measure our services both from a perspective of the past as well as what our patrons are looking for in the future library," said Elizabeth Van Wynen, vice president of the Pearl River Library Board of Trustees.

Van Wynen chaired the Strategic Planning Committee, which developed the survey, which is part of a long-range planning process that began earlier this year. Focus groups will also be put together to add further input from the public. The survey includes 26 questions, a mix of open-ended responses and multiple choice. According to the website, it is expected to take participants approximately 15 to 20 minutes to complete.

Pearl River Public Library will commemorate the 50th anniversary of its Franklin Avenue location with an open house 1 p.m. Nov. 3.
