Local efforts to collect for Hurricane Sandy Victims can be found in every town. It's usually a business, fire department or group of adults doing the collecting, but this time around, it's first graders.
Nanuet girl scouts from Daisy Troops 40010 and 40039 are collecting donations for Hurricane Sandy victims from troops within the Nanuet Service Unit.
They are working in conjuction with Corner Cafe at 112 College Avenue in Nanuet and Dance Central at 46 East Central Avenue in Pearl River as a drop-off point, said Lee Ann Devine, a parent organizer.
For Corner Cafe, donations can be dropped off any time between 6:30 a.m. to p.m. For Dance Central, donations can be dropped off Monday through Friday after 5:00 pm or Saturday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
They're collecting the following items:
- flash lights
- non-perishable foods
- baby gear (pack n plays, bouncy seats, strollers), baby formula, diapers, wipes
There is no need for clothing of any kind at this time.
"The girls will deliver their collection to the New City Fire Department's donation drive to assist the community of Breezy Point along with other worthy organizations," said Devine.
