Relay For Life Registration Ongoing This Week

The Orangetown American Cancer Society Relay for Life starts 7 p.m. Saturday at the E. Central Avenue Field in Pearl River.

Nearly 500 participants have already registered Orangetown American Cancer Society Relay for Life, which begins 7 p.m. Friday at the East Central Avenue Field in Pearl River and continues through 8 a.m. Saturday.

Participants pay $10 per person to either start a team or join one. Team members take turns walking the course in memory of those lost to cancers and to honor survivors. Families are welcome to camp out or walk the track.

A Lumunaria candle can be purchased in honor of a loved one lost to cancer or a survivor for $10.

On-site registration begins at 5:30 p.m. Tents and picnic sites can also be set up starting at 5:30 p.m. Ceremonies begin with a song by survivor Ellen Condon at 7 p.m.

Event organizer Legislator John Murphy (R-Pearl River) said he expects the number of participants to go well past last year's total of 500. The event website, lists 38 teams and 495 participants as of Tuesday afternoon. A list of teams and captains can be found here.

There will be live entertainment by Roddy Harrington and Kim O'Toole. Hibernian House, Little Scoops and Linekin Kettle Corn will provide food. There will be activities for children.
