Turning The Camera On The Orangetown Relay For Life

Over 1,200 people attended and more than 600 walked at the Orangetown Relay for Life June 17 at the Central Avenue Field in Pearl River.

Event organizers are still tallying up the funds raised, but the Orangetown American Cancer Society Relay For Life showed growth in its second year despite a rainy afternoon and forecast that held down attendance.

Over 600 walkers participated, up from 500 in 2010, with more than 1,200 total attendees.

"We got over 200 emails from people whow ere spooked by the weather and apologized and cancelled, so that impacted us a lot," said Rockland County Legislator John Murphy (R-Pearl River), one of the event's co-chairs.
