Your Weekend: Orangetown Concert Series, Toy Drive

There are plenty of ways to keep busy in and near Pearl River this weekend, and we're here to help you decide which happenings are for you.

Check out these local events:

Orangetown Concert Series

  • When: 7:30 p.m. Friday (July 26)
  • Where: Veteran's Memorial Park at 81 Hunt Road in Orangeburg
  • Why go? The third show in this year's Orangetown Summer Concert Series features The Little Paradise Band, a Pat Benetar tribute group. Admission is free to the 90-minute show. The music begins at 7:45 p.m. and there will be a concession stand. For more information, call (845) 358-6503.
Growler & Gill Christmas in July Toy Drive
  • When: Saturday, July 27 at 3 p.m.
  • Where: Growler & Gill Craft Beer Shoppe, 148 East Route 59, Nanuet
  • Why Go: Join the beer geeks as we celebrate Christmas in July.  We have a super selection of winter and holiday beers to help you beat the heat.  The Nanuet Family Resource Center will be accepting new toys for needy kids.  Bring a toy, and get a gift from G & G. Click the event name for more details.
Zumbathon for Life
  • When: 11 a.m. Saturday (July 27)
  • Where: Eugene Levy Memorial Park at 920 Route 45 in Pomona
  • Why go? Get some exercise and support Worldwide Community First Responder, Inc. Donations are $12 for adults and children get in free. 

2013 Light the Night Walk Kickoff Party
  • When: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday (July 28)
  • Where: Provident Bank Park in Pomona
  • Why go? The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter kicks off its 2013 Light the Night Walk campaign with this free event with food and presentations by Mid-Hudson Valley Honored Patients. All participants will also receive tickets to Sunday's Rockland Boulders game. Light the Night walks honor survivors of blood cancer and remember those who have been lost to the disease. The Mid-Hudson Valley Light the Night Walk is scheduled for 5 p.m. Oct. 20 at Provident Bank Park. For more information, go to www.lightthenight.org/wch or call (914) 821-8362.

Hook on the Hudson
  • When: Two showings, 7 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday
  • Where: Memorial Park in Nyack
  • Why go? Take in a free showing of the play "Hook on the Hudson - A Modern Day Peter Pam" presented by Friends of the Nyacks. All are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and picnic baskets. 

Carnegie Summer Concert Series: Harvie S. and Kenny Baron
  • When 7:30 p.m. Friday
  • Where: Nyack Library's Carnegie-Farian Room
  • Why go? Check out the latest in the Carnegie Concert Series with the duo of Harvey S on bass and Kenny Barron playing the piano. For general admission and reserved seating tickets go to www.carnegieroom.org. or come to Nyack Library's circulation desk. 

Rockland Boulders Baseball
  • When: Saturday, 6:30 p.m. / Sunday, 5 p.m.
  • Where: 1 Medical Park Dr  Pomona, NY 10970
  • Why go? Saturday is Irish Heritage Night, and will feature music, fireworks and dancing. Sunday is John Flaherty Bobblehead Day—the first 1,500 fans get a limited edition Flaherty in a Boulders uniform.
