PRHS's Cinderella Transports Audience into a Fairytale

Pearl River HIgh School presented Cinderella March 25 and 26.

Pearl River High School's production of Cinderella had everything one hoped -- magic, love, and beautiful ball gowns.

Young girls throughout the auditorium sat up on their knees as Cinderella magically transformed from her rags to her golden ball gown in seconds and their eyes bulged out anytime Fairy Godmother performed a spell, from lighting the fire to appearing in Cinderella's kitchen.

Kathie Kelley brought along four little princesses, all Lincoln Ave students, to watch.

"I think it's great," Kelley said. "They're enjoying themselves and it's a great show."

Amber Guaglieri, who is eight, loved when the Fairy Godmother gave Cinderella her carriage and changed her dress.

"I was like, 'Wow, how'd that happen that quick?'" she said.

The King and Queen, played by Brian Campbell and Maggie Marsico, especially stood out with their inspired acting and beautiful singing. They were only outshined by Prince Charming and Cinderella, who reminded everyone of their first love with their geninue performance.

Other than some unfortunate microphone issues, the stage crew was professional and quick, keeping the show running smoothly and completing huge scene changes in seconds. Special effects such as the magically lit fireplace and the disco ball dance break added to the spectacle and made for a very enjoyable show.

There were some disruptions from the audience opening night. While most enjoyed the show with respect, some forgot their manners and interupted many parts of the magic director Beth Carter worked so hard to create. The talking in the audience made it hard to hear the actors, thus exacerbating an already difficult microphone situation.

After the first intermission, many came back with snacks and some continued to enjoy them loudly thoroughout the second act. This was a shame considering how hard and beautifully Amelia Marino and George Delgrosso were working during the love scenes.

Furthermore, undeterred by the numerous announcements made by the stage crew, one audience member kept taking pictures with a paparazzi strength flash attachment, blinding the audience and the actors with every picture.

Despite the distractions, Pirate Rep created an enchanting fairytale that was a joy to be immersed in.
