Annual Pearl River Easter Egg Hunt Draws Big, Fast Crowd

Diviny & Merchant PC and The Pearl River Chamber of Commerce sponsored Pearl River's 2011 Easter Egg hunt in downtown Pearl River.

Pearl River's annual Easter Egg hunt brought out over 100 kids to Central Ave Field next to the Hook and Ladder firehouse in downtown Pearl River.

The event was sponsored by Diviny & Merchant PC and the Pearl River Chamber of Commerce, who encouraged families to spend the day in town supporting local businesses.

"We went out for lunch before hunting eggs," said 6-year-old Chloe Gallet, adding that she and her sister Emma liked picking up the Easter eggs.

Gallet, who is a kindergartener at Evans Park Elementary School, was an embodiment of the spirit of the community event. She saw a boy who didn't find any eggs of his own and offered him half of hers.

"I didn't have to tell her," Gallet's mother said. "She did it all on her own. I'm very proud of her."

The Easter egg hunt is always good-natured and fun, although it is over faster than it is started. At 1 p.m., the kids were launched from the starting line and by 1:02pm all the eggs were picked up and many families were leaving to head out for lunch.

The Orangetown Police Department oversaw the event to ensure the safety of everyone involved and answered questions from curious kids after all the candy was eaten. One lucky boy even got to speak into the loudspeaker and turn on the patrol car's lights.
