Storytelling Idol (Garnerville)
Where and When: Haverstraw King’s Daughters
Public Library, located at 10 West Ramapo Road, in Garnerville, NY 10923 on Wednesday, August 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Why Go: School-age storytellers are encouraged to compete for a chance to participate at the Rockland County Storytelling Festival in October. Round 1 is taking place from August 23-25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Round 2 is set for Sunday, September 11 from 2 to 4 p.m. Round 3 is scheduled for Sunday, September 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. Finals will be held on October 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. The public is invited to vote for their favorite storytelling contestant.

Autism Speaks Awareness Night Hosted by the Rockland Boulders (Pomona)
Where and When: Provident State Park, located at 1 Provident Bank Park Drive in Pomona, on Friday, August 26, at 5 p.m. Game starts at 7:05 p.m.
Why Go: This event will feature a game between the Rockland Boulders and the New York Federals with a percentage of ticket proceeds benefiting the Fourth Annual Greater Hudson Valley
Walk Now for Autism Speaks, which takes place on Saturday, October 15th at Rockland Community College.

22nd Annual Wings of Freedom Tour (White Plains)
Where and When: Westchester County Airport in White Plains; Friday, August 26 from 2 to 5 p.m.; Saturday, August 27 and Sunday, August 28 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Monday, August 29 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Why Go: The Wings of Freedom Tour brings historic aviation to our area with walk-through tours available of such majestic bomber aircrafts as The B-17 Flying Fortress, B-24 Liberator and P-51 Mustang. No reservations are needed for walk-through tours. Call (800) 568-8924 for more information about flight experiences.
Pricing: Walk-through tours are $12 for adults and $6 for children 12
years old and younger.

Oktoberfest at Kolping-on-Hudson
(Montrose)
Where and When: Kolping-on-Hudson, 95 Montrose Point Road, in
Montrose, NY; Saturday, August 27 from noon to sundown.
Why Go:  German food and music plus children’s games, chance booths and raffles. Call 914-736-0117 for more details.
Pricing: $5 donation for music; Children under 12 are admitted for free. Pool available all day for additional $5. Free parking.

16th Annual Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day (Queens)
Where and When: The USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.  on Saturday, August 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Why Go: This full-day tennis and music festival for children and adults kicks off the 2011 US Open, and includes interactive games, musical entertainment and tennis activities as well performances from up-and-coming stars like Nickelodeon’s “The Fresh Beat Band,”
Girls Nite Out, Action Item, Jacob Latimore, Love Jones Girlz and New Hollow.
Pricing: General admission promenade tickets cost $10 and loge tickets are $20. Stadium show tickets are on sale now through Ticketmaster (1-866-OPEN-TIX), www.usopen.org and at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center box office.

Back-to-School Concert
(Stony Point)

No amount of info will be enough, no answer will be accepted. The issues conference will be a circus of endless questions, ideas, and demands. Haverstraw bay reclassified as drinking water will better protect it, provide an endless supply of water and finally help end the stereotype of the Hudson being polluted Recommend
