Credit Union Helps Rocklanders Shred 12,000 Pounds Of Documents

Program designed to help fight identity theft.

Palisades Federal Credit Union, based in Pearl River, collected more than 12,000 pounds of sensitive documents at its annual “Rockland County Shred Day,” with nearly 500 participants showing up at Rockland County branches.

“As Rockland County’s community Credit Union, we were delighted with the turnout and feedback from community members,” said Mark Welshoff, president and CEO. “The Shred trucks at our Nanuet, Orangeburg and New City branches were all extremely busy throughout the entire event recycling m six tons of paper.”

The Credit Union invited anyone to participate in this year’s festivities by shredding and recycling documents that contained personal identifying information such as, social security numbers, account information, addresses, and telephone numbers.

In an effort to help combat the growing threat of identity theft and fraud, each year Palisades Federal Credit Union hosts an annual Shred day where people can safely discard any and all documents containing confidential information.
