Former Pearl River Resident Opens Orangeburg School of Rock

Pearl River native Shuman Roy left the corporate world to open a business related to his love of music.

Roy found the opportunity to do that by opening the Orangeburg School of Rock music school at 135 Erie Street in Blauvelt.

"I've always wanted to give back to my community, but never knew where to start," Roy said. "When I saw what School of Rock was doing, I first thought that it was a shame they didn't have a School of Rock when I was growing up. My second thought was that I wanted to be a part of what they were doing. After meeting with the corporate franchise team, I couldn't think of a reason not to open a school in Orangeburg and bring this music school to the community where I grew up."

The Orangeburg School of Rock will hold a grand opening and ribbon cutting Saturday at noon. The event features performances, raffles and tours of the facility.
