Long-Time Pearl River Store Owner Liebmann Recognized (VIDEO)

Liebmann sold his store after opening it 57 years ago

Mel Liebmann officially sold Mel's Army-Navy Center Sept. 1 after owning the store on Williams Street in Pearl River for 57 years, which you can .

To honor Liebmann for his work in the community, a sendoff was held Saturday morning at Mel’s Army-Navy so that numerous local officials, friends and longtime shoppers could show their appreciation for Liebmann.

“Everybody loves you,” Legislator John Murphy said to Liebmann. “[Orangetown Councilman] Denis [Troy] and I are so glad you never ran for office, or else we’d be here running the store.”

Congrats to Mel, any chance Mr. Murphy offered up his thoughts on the budget problem of Rockland county? He is usually good about showing up for ribbon cuttings etc, how about our fiscal problems?

Well done Mel!! I have shopped in your store numerous times over the last few years and always found you pleasant to deal with. That is why I kept coming back. You are one of the reasons that I am glad I moved to this community.
As for Mr. Murphy's comments, I echo Harvey Cedars comments. Wait till the Orangetown taxpayer gets their bill this year and they see the increase in thier county taxes. I hope Mr Murphy makes him self as available to answer his constituents questions. Mr. Murphy is great man, a saint, when it comes to helping the mentally handicapped and others that are dissadvantaged. As a legislator, he can and should be doing more for the taxpaying citizens of his district.

Mel, the first time I was in your store was January 1967, with Bob Meyer & Bill Ahlmeyer. just after I joined the Orangetown Police. Over the years you have been a great friend to the people of Pearl River, Orangetown and the Orangetown Police. Back in "The old days" we needed shirts for the soft ball team and Kenny Moorehouse talked to you and we had them. You were like this to everyone even if it meant you lost a bit of profit.
I'm in Florida, but my kids have been taking their kids to your store for years. You are a "True Original" and great guy. Charlie Carroll

Mel,
You were always there when we needed you! You were there for my mom, myself, my children and my grandchildren. No matter what it was your store had it... if not in the front it was always in the back! We shall miss you but will never forget how much you helped us over the years! Margaret Skvorec

Hey Charlie, I hope that you are enjoying retirement in Florida. I remember you fondly from long ago PR days.

Congratulations to you Mel on your retirement. You have been a true treasure and friend to the people of Pearl River. You always gave the coaches and their wives who shopped there for everything from Christmas gifts to boy scout uniforms, the best service and fair price. Thank you from the entire Yorks' Family.

An issues conference will be a wast of time and money. So many ' issues ' have been pulled out ofRead More thin air. The people who organized against the plant will just keep saying the same thing. No amount of info will be enough, no answer will be accepted. The issues conference will be a circus of endless questions, ideas, and demands. Haverstraw bay reclassified as drinking water will better protect it, provide an endless supply of water and finally help end the stereotype of the Hudson being polluted Recommend
