Palisades Federal Offering Rockland 'Shred Day'

Palisades Federal Credit Union will be helping Rockland residents properly dispose of their documents Saturday.

The credit union will hold its fourth annual Rockland County Shred Day from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the branch on Route 59 in Nanuet.

Properly shredding documents before throwing them out helps to provide protection from identity theft.

"According to Javelin Strategy & Research, nearly 12 million Americans were victims of identity theft in 2012," said Palisades Federal Credit Union President and CEO Mark Welshoff. "With such growing prevalence, it is vital to be consciously aware of the threat and take proactive measures such as shredding personal and confidential information to protect against identity theft. As Rockland County's community credit union, we are committed to Rockland County and are proud to offer this service once again at no cost to anyone who would like to participate."

Anyone who lives, works, worships or volunteers in Rockland County can participate and watch their documents being shredded. The service is free for all personal documents. Businesses that are not Palisades Federal members may only shred up to 10 pounds of materials.

Participants are eligible to win a $50 American Express gift card. Palisades Federal is also offering a $100 bonus to anybody opening a paperless checking account with direct deposit during the event.
