Pearl River Businesses Adapt to the Storm

Many Pearl River businesses were open Monday, but expect to close early and possibly stay closed Tuesday due to Hurricane Sandy. Post your updates below.

The words in the windows of the Pearl River Saloon expressed the thoughts of many as Hurricane Sandy's effects began to show Monday.

"Go Away Sandy."

Flooding caused by Tropical Storm Irene forced The Saloon to be closed for nearly four months last year.  The Saloon, with sandbags blocking the front door from the outside, was among many businesses in Pearl River that closed Monday. Pearl River Lanes and Steve's Dart Lounge were also closed and most of the parking lots at Blue Hill Plaza were empty Monday morning.

Luigi O'Grady's Deli and Catering was open, though owner Michelle Worob said they would most likely close around 4 p.m. and stay closed through Tuesday with the worst of the storm expected Monday night.

ShopRite of Pearl River and CVS will take their orders from corporate offices, though both were open normal hours Monday. Employees at the CVS said that they are still open 24 hours as usual until they are told otherwise.
