Mike Chen and his family own on North Middletown Road, and when the space next door opened, they thought about what they could use it for, if anything.
Eventually, they decided Pearl River didn’t have an all you can eat sushi restaurant, and so was opened on May 30.
“The guy who owned it moved and since it was right next door, we kept the space,” Chen said. “We thought about it and decided a sushi restaurant could be good, and so we decided to make it the first all you can eat sushi place in Pearl River.”
The main draw is the all you can eat sushi special, which is not a buffet. The sushi is prepared fresh and there’s a large variety of sushi. Through the first few weeks, Chen said some of the most popular rolls have been the Manhattan roll, diamond roll and American Dream. The all you can eat sushi deal takes place every day.
They also offer plenty of non-sushi items. Chen said some other popular dishes so far included fried bananas, crispy calamari and sashimi.
“Then there’s specials,” Chen said. “The chefs do a lot of specials and things you won’t find on the menu regularly.”
The space, which is located literally next door to No. 1 Chinese Kitchen, is spacious and has a lot of seating. There’s also a few seats that are stools looking right behind the counter where the chefs will prepare the sushi.
No. 1 Sushi is open Mon - Thu, 11am - 11:30pm; Fri, Sat, 11am - 11pm; Sun, noon - 10:30pm.
