Pearl River's Newest Auto Repair Shop To Expand

Eggers Automotive opened in January and will become a U-Haul renter within the coming weeks   For Bill Eggers, his career as an automotive mechanic has been somewhat of a family business.

He originally moved into auto repair after his father’s gas station in Teaneck, NJ, was limited to just selling gas, so he left. After 30-plus years working in New Jersey, Eggers opened his own auto repair shop, Eggers Automotive, in Pearl River on Jan. 2 of this year. Two of his uncles help out, and just a few stores down on S. Main Street is Revolution Tattoo Company, which is cousin owns. His friends also run Beauty Connection on E. Central Avenue.

Eggers first started thinking about opening up his own shop about 10 years ago and was seriously looking for a location for about six-eight months when he chose the Pearl River spot, located at 88 S. Main Street at the corner of S. Main and Jefferson Avenue.

“We fix just about everything,” Eggers said. “We’ll fix cars, trucks, motorcycles, ATVs, even law mowers. If it’s got an engine, we’ll fix it.”

Eggers, of Woodcliff Lake, NJ, said they do everything from a flat repair to an oil change. So far, Eggers said they’ve built up a slow but steady customer base and the most common services people are stopping in for are oil changes and break repairs.

Heading into the warmer months, Eggers said it’s important to have cars’ air conditioning, especially coolant, checked. He said people should have check their tires.

“Older tires, especially in the summer and when it starts getting hotter, the older tires have a better chance of just blowing up on you,” Eggers said. The older tires could also have dry-rot or be cracked.”

Eggers, a National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence master technician, said the repair shop is also expanding its services in the coming weeks. Soon, the shop will also operate as a U-Haul renter. Once it gets its U-Hauls in, it’ll remain open on Sundays for just U-Haul rentals, whereas the shop is open six days a week.

“Some people from U-Haul just walked in one day and asked us about it,” he said. “So in the next few weeks we’ll have that all set up. I don’t know what we’re getting yet. I think it might be a few vans and a trailer. We’ll have boxes and supplies in here. But if we don’t have something here, we’ll be able to get it from the big place in Nanuet.”

Repairing cars aren’t Eggers’ only car-related hobby, though. He also is a big racing fan, and has even raced a bit himself. His father got him into racing as well. Although he hasn’t raced in a few years, Eggers said he used to race small block modified cars in Middletown.
