Freegal Music from the Library

Libraries have changed over the past few decades. No longer are they the dusty mausoleums containing only books, with dowdy stereotypes behind the counter shushing everyone who enters. Today libraries offer a variety of materials to satisfy even the most plugged-in, technology-driven diehards.

The latest addition to the library’s abundant collection is Freegal Music; a downloadable music service. All you need is your library card and access to a computer to get started. Card holders can download up to 3 free music selections per week from the expansive Sony Music catalog with more than 50 record labels featured.  Over 100 specific genres are represented, everything from alternative to world music with new releases being added continually. Every song has a sample clip you can listen to before you download.

Freegal Music can be accessed from the Pearl River Public Library’s home page www.pearlriverlibrary.org  (a valid Pearl River borrower number and PIN are required). Downloads, which do not expire, are all in the MP3 format and can be loaded into iTunes for use with an iPod. If you are new to the download experience, stop by the library for an in-person tutorial.
