Pearl River Public Library Hosts RCLS Regional, Teen Battle of the Books

Tomorrow beginning at 1pm library teams are coming to Pearl River from all around the Ramapo Catskill Region to see who will win the title of Battle of the Books Champion!

The Ramapo Catskill Library System, Regional Battle of the Books is happening Saturday in Pearl River at the Pearl River Public Library. The Battle of the Books is a trivia based competition for kids 6th through 12th grades.

Eight books were selected in January by the Battle of the Books Committee which is comprised of 12 different libraries from the Ramapo Catskill Region. Teens read these selected titles and come together in local teams to prepare for the actual battle Saturday beginning at 1 pm, which will determine which library team has the most knowledge of these eight books to win the title of Battle of the Books champion.

Pearl River Public Library, home of the The Book Eating Mice, has eight team members. Half are returning, third place champions from last year’s game.  Erin, Genevieve, Michael and Kate are back again with new team members Sara, Ryan, Malakai and Michele and are well prepared for this year’s battle. The new teammates are happy to be part of the group of victors and are hoping to surpass last year’s win by doing even better this time around.

Why The Book Eating Mice? “Mice are awesome and they eat books for breakfast!” Having a team picture taken was not this group’s first choice. However, the kids were all in agreement if they win they will turn around for a championship photo.

The Battle of the Books is open to one and all. We urge everyone in the community to come out to the library tomorrow and root for our home team!
