Summer Reading is in Full Swing at the Pearl River Public Library!

Summer Events at the Pearl River Library!

Monday, June 27 kicked off Summer Reading at the library. Kids came pouring through on the first day to record books they have read and to partake in the activities available for children of all ages.

This is the Pearl River Public Library’s 40th summer hosting a reading program, each year expanding to help kids build better reading skills while having fun and creating wonderful memories at the library. This summer there are over 40 teen volunteers helping library staff monitor the younger children with the reading game, helping to facilitate crafts, participating in special events and assisting with story time.

The national children’s theme for 2011 is “One World, Many Stories.” Every week there is a new worldwide adventure. Children embark upon trips to different countries or continents featured through books, story time and programming bringing all the exotic locations from around the world here to Pearl River. So if you haven’t signed up yet to be part of the trip there is still time to do so.

Last year over 3,600 books were read by over 500 participants. This year we are looking forward to increasing those numbers and making sure all the kids of Pearl River have a great summer experience. Check out pictures from our Side Walk Chalk Art program and from the Teen Tie-Dye T-shirt Program.
