Helping a Good Cause in Orangetown

Helping Orangetown students save very important youth activities in town

Today I'd like to talk to you about something other than politics. I'd like to talk to you about supporting the students of Orangetown.

Last year, budget cuts threatened to force Orangetown to cut the town's DARE and Youth Police Academy programs. Local high school students rallied the community together and formed the George Bergerman Youth Activities Fund to help save these very important programs. And they succeeded. Several thousand dollars were raised over the course of 2012 and both the summer Youth Police Academy and the 2012-2013 DARE program were saved.

I was very proud to be part of their effort last year and very proud that I'm working with them again in 2013.

This past Thursday night, I was pleased to be a guest bartender at Johnny's Smokehouse in Pearl River where I help raise over $250 in tips (and donations!) to help this inspiring group of high school students raise money to once again save these two great programs.

Also, on Thursday May 23 at 7 p.m., there is a fundraiser for this group at that night's Rockland Boulders game. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased on the Boulders fundraiser part of their website. For each ticket bought, you will receive a hot dog and drink, with $10 of each ticket going to the George Bergerman Youth Fund. Hope to see you there!
