We had a Big Win Last Night, Let's Keep that Momentum!

Last night the taxpayers of Orangetown scored a huge victory.

The Orangetown Town Board passed a resolution unanimously to put a referendum on the November ballot to abolish the Receiver of Taxes office and merge it with the Town Clerk which will save taxpayers money.

Chris Smith, a candidate for Receiver of Taxes, has been advocating this change for over a year now and was at the meeting to speak in favor of this referendum. “Plain and simple, it’s about implementing change to save taxpayers money,” Smith stated.

We are in a very difficult time economically and Smith believes that getting rid of this position will free up funding. If the decision is made to eliminate the position, it might be able to help restore critical programs that have been affected recently such as the Youth Police Academy, D.A.R.E. and School Resource officers to name a few. It also, could be put aside in a rainy day fund or given back to the taxpayers.

The decision made last night is assisting Smith in his aspiration to no longer make the position a financial burden on the residents of Orangetown. Smith has a five-point plan and is “In It To End It.” Now it’s in the taxpayers hands this November to help Smith reach the goal of relieving the position’s burden.
