A look at one farewell and upcoming events in Pearl River

New Pearl River Rotary President

Bob Simon's one-year term as president of the Rotary Club of Pearl River comes to an end this week. Carol McGrath will take over July 1, with an installation dinner Wednesday evening at the Rockland County Country Club in Sparkill. Technically, Simon's final meeting as club president will be this Thursday.

Pearl River Schools Switch

The Rotary Club of Pearl River is not the only organization making a change at the top this week. Dr. John Morgano will officially take over as the Pearl River School District's superintendent of schools Friday morning after eight years as assistant superintendent in the district.

Morgano has already made an impact with his recommendation to reorganize the district administration and to appoint Director of Curriculum Sue Wheeler to the newly-created position of Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. The district is currently searching for somebody to fill its other new position - director of human resources and community services.

Farewell To A Local Store

Madelynrose announced late last week that Sunday, June 26 was the store's last day after just over five years in Pearl River. The children's boutique, which was located at 38 E. Central Avenue, had opened in April of 2006. Read more about the closing here.

Figuratively, of course. The Pearl River Public Library will host "We're On Our Way To Italy" for children entering grades one through three starting at 5 p.m. today. The free activity will entertain the children and teach them about Italy.

Pearl River Public Library will also hold a sidewalk art activity from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
