Community Cleanup Day 2012
Volunteers in Orangetown and other communities take on litter as part of the Great American Cleanup.
"It's the first thing I see every morning and it irks me," said Dorian Tunell as he used a litter grabber to pick up trash along Route 303. "There won't be any garbage here when I'm done," he said as he stuffed pieces of paper into a large garbage bag.
Tunell joined dozens of other volunteers at 18 assigned locations throughout the town as Community Cleanup Day 2012 got underway. The Orangetown event was one of several going on in Rockland County as part of the Great American Cleanup, which runs through April and May.
Residents are encouraged to visit KeepRocklandBeautiful.org to learn of upcoming cleanup effforts in their communities. The evnt was co-sponsored by the Orangetown Highway and Parks Departments, and the Orangetown Shade Tree Commission, which planted several donated trees at Town Hall with the help of volunteers.
