Anyone know if everything was OK at Larchmont's fireworks tonight? It looked to me like the barge caught fire, and the show was cut short, but since the barge was pretty far out in the sound, I couldn't really see well. It was beautiful there anyway - nice Dixieland concert, gorgeous view, nice people around me....I just hope that no one was hurt.

I've been looking for news, but not a word. Those barges generally don't have any people on them, and there wasn't any visible large scale fire or police response, so I'm guessing the plan was just to let it burn itself out and then make an insurance claim for the lost fireworks.

A flare was shot up from the barge. Seatow and police were called and responded. The tugboat holding the barge put the fire out. No word on injurys.

I was so disappointed that Southeast didn't have fireworks this year. What a shame! This could have opened additional economic opportunities for local businesses (dinner out first?) as well as just being a feel-good, proud-to-be-an-American type of event.

thnaks to the peekskill/cortlandt patch for not covering the wreath laying ceremony during the peekskill parade. you missed an emotional ceremony along with a history lesson on a local revolutionary war hero.

Thanks for commenting, Susan. Not sure if you saw, but the Town's website (http://www.townofsoutheast-ny.com) has the following message on the home page: "The Town of Southeast will not be sponsoring 4th of July Fireworks this year but looks to resume this event next year."

Agree! It was awesome. What a finish!

Couldn't believe there were no fireworks at Mt. Ebo! My children, myself and my friends who we usually go with were VERY dissappointed! Our taxes keep increasing and yet we seem to get less and less. I would have preferred the fireworks go on but ask for a small donation at the entrance. This was very unpatriotic of the town. I, for one, am proud to be an American, but obviously my own town is not.

Hi Paula,
Larchmont didn't put on a fireworks show—may have been coming from Mamaroneck or another neighboring community. I'll check with Mamaroneck Police. Best, Stefani Kim, Larchmont Patch Local Editor

An issues conference will be a wast of time and money. So many ' issues ' have been pulled out ofRead More thin air. The people who organized against the plant will just keep saying the same thing. No amount of info will be enough, no answer will be accepted. The issues conference will be a circus of endless questions, ideas, and demands. Haverstraw bay reclassified as drinking water will better protect it, provide an endless supply of water and finally help end the stereotype of the Hudson being polluted Recommend
