Come listen & learn about our Indigenous roots and their influence on the music of today.  Indigenous populations, such as the Tainos did not disappear, as history books usually assert.  A great majority of us have links to these Amerindians cultures.  Come celebrate that connection with some live music and dancing!

This event traces the roots and development of Salsa beginning with the manufacture and use of percussion by the Africans and Indigenous peoples of the world through singing, dancing and drumming: a method of communication to their deities and used in various sacred ceremonies.

The lecture/performance includes a full ensemble concert with European instruments, African percussion, Afro-Cuban percussion, Afro-Puerto Rican percussion and Afro-Dominican percussion.  Dancing for the attendees is an interactive part of the event.  Mr. Jose Obando, the Salsa consultant for the Musical Instruments Dept. of the Metropolitan Museum of Art will present this program.  BRING YOUR DANCING SHOES!!
