Learn to Deal with Every Day Stress at Nanuet Library Presented by Drs Cocilovo & Rodriguez, New City Chiropractic Center

Stress affects nearly everyone at one time or another regardless of whether the work environment is a corporate setting or a home office. It also affects those who may not work a regular job but are caretakers for young children or for aging parents.

Stress, often described as a feeling of being overwhelmed, worried or run-down, can lead to both physical and psychological health issues. While some stress can actually be beneficial, producing a boost that provides drive and energy to get through tough situations such as exams or work deadlines, an extreme amount of stress has been proven to have negative health consequences and can adversely affect the immune, cardiovascular, and even the central nervous system.

Chronic stress can also take an emotional toll and while many people are able to deal with minor episodes, on-going stress can actually be psychologically and physically debilitating. Learning to deal with everyday stressors through healthy stress management behaviors will reduce the possibility of the stress turning into serious health conditions such as anxiety, insomnia, muscle pain, high blood pressure and even a weakened immune system. Major illnesses such as heart disease, depression and obesity can also often be traced back to stress.

In a recent survey by the American Psychological Association, 33% of respondents indicated that they never discussed ways to manage stress with their healthcare provider.  In a free workshop to be presented at the Nanuet Public Library on Tuesday, October 1st at 7pm attendees will learn simple techniques to implement when they feel stress coming on. “Identifying when you need to take a break and learning simple stress relieving stretching techniques can help anyone better deal with anxiety and stress more easily,” stated Dr. Michael Cocilovo of New City Chiropractic Center. “We’ll discuss how people can identify the warning signs of both daily stress and chronic stress and provide easy techniques for reducing the anxiety that comes along with it.”

The program is free of charge and more information can be found at www.nanuetlibrary.org or or by calling the Library at 845-623-4281.
