St. Thomas Aquinas College To Host Esteemed National Broadcaster Ed Randall And Former New York Mets General Manager Omar Minaya For "Art of the Interview" Series

(Sparkill, NY—October 25, 2013)--St. Thomas Aquinas College’s “Art of the Interview” series hosted by Ed Randall, longtime New York radio and television personality and published author, will continue with its second interview featuring Omar Minaya, formerNew York Mets General Manager, announces Michael McManus, Director of Academic Services and Professor of Sports Management at the College. The event is scheduled for Monday, November 4, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the College’s Sullivan Theatre. The event is free and open to the public.

The “Art of the Interview” series is co-sponsored by theCommunications Arts and Sports Management departments at the College and will consist of different interviews conducted by Mr. Randall throughout the semester. Information will follow on future interviewees and dates.

“We are looking forward to continuing our series with such an influential broadcaster in the world of sports,” McManus says of Randall. “Our students will benefit from the ability to witness firsthand Mr. Randall’s expertise in the interview process. And Omar Minaya is sure to be an entertaining guest for our audience,” McManus adds.

Randall, an esteemed national broadcaster, is considered one of the nation’s leading baseball interviewers on television and radio, which attests to his regular appearances as a valued contributor on ESPN Classic’s anthology shows and now, on the new MLB Network. His critically-acclaimed television series, Ed Randall's Talking Baseball, developed an enviable heritage of journalism, the result of more than 500 compelling interviews with the Who’s Who of baseball. The program aired on various regional sports networks across the country and was seen locally on the MSG-Network. Randall’s radio show, Ed Randall’s Talking Baseball, airs on WFAN-radio every Sunday at 9:00 a.m.

Minaya, born in the Dominican Republic, was first hired by the New York Mets in 1998 as Assistant General Manager. He became the first Latino General Manager in baseball history when he assumed the role with the Montreal Expos. He returned to the Mets as General Manager in 2004, a post he held until 2010. In 2011, one year after working as an Analyst for mlb.com, Minaya was hired by the San Diego Padres as Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations.

“I first met Omar years ago in the back of the Texas Rangers clubhouse in old Yankee Stadium,” said Randall. “He has gained the respect of the baseball industry as a great talent evaluator that resulted in him becoming the first Latino general manager in the history of the game with the old Montreal Expos,” he added.
