Pearl River Interfaith Holding Blood Drive

The Pearl River Interfaith Coalition will host its annual blood drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Pearl River Hook and Ladder on E. Central Avenue.

“For many years, we have sponsored a blood drive in January when blood supplies tend to dwindle,” said Ray Kimmel, this year’s blood drive chairperson. “With the generous support of our community, we have collected 150 to 200 units of blood each year and urge the community to join us on January 15th to donate blood and help save lives.”

The coalition works with the New York Blood Center (NYBC) to put on the blood drive.

“Think about all the people in your life who’ve been in a car accident, or had surgery, or are dealing with cancer. They probably got a blood transfusion,” said NYBC Chief Medical Officer Beth Shaz, MD. “Especially at this time of year, we need to make sure that blood is always available for whoever needs it.”

It is possible for a person to donate a pint of whole blood every 56 days.
