Local Companies Partner with Meals on Wheels

Nice-Pak/PDI and Bill Kolb, Jr. Subaru are working with Meals on Wheels of Rockland to battle hunger among seniors.

They combined on a "stuff the trunk" event Dec. 20 at Nice-Pak/PDI's annual Turkey Bowl holiday celebration. Nice-Pak employees put together and donated nearly 70 "blizzard bags" full of non-perishable food for people who are homebound. The bags were stuffed into the trunks of two Subaru vehicles as part of Subaru of America's "Share the Love" Campaign.

"Share the Love" was created to give Subaru dealers the opportunity to give back to their communities. Through the program, Meals on Wheels of Rockland is eligible for grants up to $35,000.

"Grants are (an) integral part of our agency's effort to provide nutritious meals to Rockland homebound seniors in need," said Meals on Wheels of Rockland CEO Barbara Kohlhausen.

Subaru is donating $250 for every vehicle sold to the charity of the customer's choice from now through Jan. 2, 2014 as part of the "Share the Love" event. Nike-Pak's headquarters and Bill Kolb, Jr. Subaru are both in Orangeburg.
