Fireworks Highlight July 4 in Pearl River

Pearl River's traditional Fourth of July fireworks show will once again light up the sky above the Central Avenue Field tonight.

For this year's Independence Day Celebration, the carnival will be replaced by a bouncy obstacle course. The plan is to open the day's events on the Central Ave. Field at 3 p.m.

"It's 82 feet long, It's big," said Stephan Munno of the Pearl River Park and Activity Committee, which has organized the fireworks show since 1979. "It's impressive. I saw it at Day in the Park in Montvale."

Baked By Angels, the new specialty bake shop on Veterans Parkway in Pearl River, and Louie's on the Avenue will be among local businesses with tables set up. Munno said the committee will be selling raffle tickets and light ropes.

Adam and the New Hearts will begin playing live music at 7 p.m. There will be a brief ceremony at 8 p.m. including the awarding of the Al Carpentieri Community Service Award to Rotary Club of Pearl River President John Buonadona. 

The fireworks display will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m.  The fireworks show in Nyack's Memorial Park is also set for tonight at approximately 8 p.m.

What's Open and Closed?
Orangetown Town Hall and all Rockland County offices will be closed today and reopen Friday.

Pearl River Public Library and the Nyack Library are both closed Thursday and open reopen Friday.

Clarkstown Town Hall is closed July 4th. Clarkstown Mini Trans does not operate on July 4th and there is no garbage or recycling pick up.  Collections will take place on the next regularly scheduled day. Town hall and mini trans will return to their regular schedules on Friday.

On July 4th, Germonds Pool will open from noon to 8:45 p.m., Congers Pool will open from noon until 6:45 p.m. and Lake Nanuet Pool will be open from 11 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.

The New York Stock Market and NASDAQ are closed on Independence Day as are U.S. Post Office branches. The Palisades Center will open from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
