American Cancer Society Works to 'Finish the Fight' on 100th Anniversary

The American Cancer Society turns 100 Wednesday.
They are celebrating by trying to put themselves out of business.
The American Cancer Society has begun a Finish the Fight campaign to put an end to cancer with efforts ranging from local events such as the Relay for Life to national television commercials by Josh Groban and Mary J. Blige.
Locally, that includes two American Cancer Society Relay for Life events next month, June 8 at Rockland County Community College and Orangetown's walk June 14 on the Central Ave. Field in Pearl River.
The Orangetown Relay for Life is recruiting individual participants and teams. As of last week, they were slightly ahead of last year's pace with the number of teams and the amount of money promised, but had fewer individual participants. The organizing committee continues to add activities. There will be a clown with baloons for the kids for at least the first hour, face painting from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and the Rockland Boulder's mascot, Boulder Bird, will be there to sign autographs at 7:30 p.m.
There will be sports activities for kids organized by Clarkstown South Track Coach Ray Kondracki. They will set up for the frisbee game Kan Jam and show a movie at approximately 10 p.m. There will also be traditional Relay for Life  activities such as the survivor's walk and the a candle lit lap shortly after sundown.
