Lena Verdi, Longtime Sleepy Hollow Resident, Dies at 88

Lena Verdi was born in North Tarrytown in 1924, worked for the Village for many years, and was a member of the Sleepy Hollow Seniors.

Lena Verdi, a longtime Sleepy Hollow resident, died on November 20, 2012. She was 88.

Mrs. Verdi was born on January 10, 1924 to Thomas and Theresa Rombaldi Fallacaro in North Tarrytown.  She worked for many years as a clerk and typist for the Village of North Tarrytown (Sleepy Hollow). She was a member of the Sleepy Hollow Seniors.

She is survived by her children Lawrence (Melissa) Verdi of Sleepy Hollow, Diane Verdi of Sleepy Hollow, and Thomas Verdi of Manchester, CT. She is also survived by 3 grandchilren as well as 2 sisters: Sarah Ceconi and Filomena Fallacaro. She was predeceased by her husband Angelo Verdi as well as her brothers Frank, Richard, and Nicolo Fallacaro.

Visitation will be held on Wed. from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at COFFEY FUNERAL HOME INC. in Tarrytown. Her Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM on Friday at Immaculate Conception Church in Sleepy Hollow. Interment follows at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

They had the best lawn in Phelps Manor. I remember as a kid, the watchful eye of Mr. Verdi, as myself and my friends would ride our bikes along the sidewalk, being careful to not come in contact with his sculptured lawn. Fast forward 34 years, I would take them to the local airports. Such pleasant people, a great family. Rest in peace.
