Memorial Service March 8 for Johanna Keith

Johanna M. Keith, 89, of Pearl River, NY, died Monday, February 24, 2014 with her family by her side.

Johanna was born on August 15, 1924, to Umberto and Concetta Marenco in New York City. She graduated from Evander Childs High School in 1942.

Johanna was a Navy veteran of WWII, serving as a Communications Officer. Following her discharge, she was an Arc Welder at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, welding the nose cones of the gliders that flew over Normandy Beach on D-Day.

She is predeceased by her husband George, her daughter Deborah, her brothers Alex and Joseph. Johanna is survived by her sister Benita and brother Richard; her children - Susan (John) Rutledge of Tappan, George (Cathy) Keith of New Rochelle, Brian (Maureen) of Blauvelt, John (Beverly) of Pa., Thomas (Barbara) of Pelham, Alexander (Colleen) of Fla and Richard (Brian Paul) of Ct., her grandchildren Thomas (Tina), Michael, Ryan, Adam, Julia, Lindsay (Nicholas), Lauren (Nate), Tara (Kevin), George, William, Sara, Kelly, Zak and Ethan and her great-grandchildren Nicholas and Ryan.

During her 45 years as a resident of Pearl River, Johanna was active in the PTA, Girl and Boy Scouts and a Deacon at the Nauraushaun Presbyterian Church. She was proud of her careers as a Mary Kay Consultant and Real Estate Agent.

A memorial service will be held at the Nauraushaun Presbyterian Church, Sickletown Road, Pearl River, NY on Saturday, March 8, at 1pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to United Hospice of Rockland, where the staff took loving care of her in her final months.
