Pearl River's Ennio Munno Dies

The founder of the Pearl River Park and Activity Committee, which puts on the annual Fourth of July celebration in Central Avenue Field, Ennio Munno (1935-2011) passed away Friday.

Ennio Munno lived in Pearl River for over 50 years and his involvement in the community over the years brought some to call him the "Unofficial mayor of Pearl River."

He was best known for starting the annual Fourth of July celebrations in Central Avenue Field in 1979 and remaining as a member of the Pearl River Park and Activity Committee until his passing Friday, Sept. 2.

Munno is survived by seven children; Umberto, Franco, Ermanno, Annina, Ennio, Jr., Stephan and Laura; and 10 grandchildren. The wake will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 6 at the Assumma-Shankey Funeral Home in Pearl River.

The mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7 at St. Margaret's Church, with the burial at St. Anthony's Cemetary in Nanuet. The family requested that rather than sending flowers, donations should be made in Munno's memory to the Pearl River Park and Activity Committee, Inc. P.O. Box 1216, Pearl River, NY 10965.
